Douglas Kirkland : « Romance »

The Exhibition

"Douglas Kirkland joined LOOK magazine at the age of twenty, then moved to LIFE magazine during the golden age of photojournalism in the 1960s and 1970s. He earned this exceptional position thanks to his immense talent and remarkable interpersonal skills, as can be seen in the series he produced in the private life of Marilyn Monroe. From 1960 to 2013, for half a century, he tirelessly photographed Hollywood stars in Rome, London, and Paris. Not content with making the front page of hundreds of prestigious magazines, he also worked as a set photographer on major films such as “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “Out of Africa,” “Titanic,” “Moulin Rouge,” “Australia,” and “The Great Gatsby.”
His immense and multifaceted body of work takes us back to those years when, despite the Cold War, the world lived as if anything were possible, when America led the way in consumerism and frivolous happiness as an end in itself."
