The Shape of Light

The Exhibition

The first act of artist Azadeh Ghotbi's series The Nature of Light was the result of an exploration of changing light in the middle of Norwegian nature. Inspired by the concept of mono no aware (sensitivity and empathy towards the ephemeral) her objective was to slow down certain moments of light to reveal them, magnify them and invite contemplation.

Back in London, she continued to explore the alchemy and interaction between light, time, movement and space. But this time she focused on the less beautiful and noticed artificial lights of her city, those of the lamps on the building sites at night. This 2nd act gives the series The Shape of Light.

These magnificent abstract trompe-l'oeil which will be exhibited at the DUREV space blur the lines between digital pixels and brushstrokes, as if the artist was also erasing the boundaries of interpretation between painting and photography by painting with light.

This series also touches on the paradox of the omnipresence of the image in the XXI century and its variable and blurred use between object of testimony and manipulation of reality. These images invite the viewer to question the truth of the false and go beyond the simple image.

Azadeh Ghotbi began her artistic journey as a painter, later adopting photography as a new palette of hues to broaden her range of expression. "I owe it a whole new way of seeing," she says. A Francophile Iranian based in London, she has exhibited throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
